Start With the Patio You Want to Use
A cover should make it easier to get outside, not put a post in the middle of your usual path. Tell us where you want to sit, which doors need to open freely and whether the windows behind the patio still need daylight. We can look at a cover over an existing ground-level patio or discuss the cover alongside a new patio surface. The surface and the overhead structure are separate parts of the job, and an existing slab or paver area is not automatically a suitable support for new posts.
The amount of shade you want also matters. Deep afternoon shade may sound good until the room behind the patio feels dark. On the other hand, a light-filtering roof may not give you the same shade as an opaque material. We would rather sort that out before picking a look from a photo.

Wood, Aluminum or ACRYLITE Patio Covers?
We work with three patio-cover material choices, and each calls for a different conversation:
- Wood can be shaped around the house and finished to suit its details. Ask what ongoing finish care the proposed build will need.
- Aluminum may appeal if you want a different appearance and maintenance routine from painted or stained wood. The specific system and finish belong in the proposal rather than a blanket claim that all aluminum covers behave alike.
- ACRYLITE is an acrylic-sheet direction for homeowners who want some daylight through the roof. The exact sheet, tint and supporting frame determine what it looks and feels like below. If keeping the room behind your patio bright is the main concern, our ACRYLITE patio-cover option deserves a closer look.
A pergola is another conversation if you mostly want the feel of overhead structure and partial shade. It does not serve the same rain-shelter purpose as a roofed patio cover. We can talk through which job you actually want the structure to do.
Good Patio Cover Installation Starts at the House and the Ground
For a cover beside the house, we need to understand where it could attach and how water will be kept out at that connection. For a cover with its own supports, post locations and footings matter just as much as the roof overhead. In either case, we need a sensible path for runoff, enough usable headroom and a layout that does not make your patio awkward to move through. We will not assume that adding a roof to an existing patio is as simple as setting posts on its surface.
Spokane-area properties do not all go through the same permit office. An address in the City of Spokane is different from one in unincorporated Spokane County or Spokane Valley, and the requirements depend on the actual parcel and design. Roofs also need to be planned for the applicable site conditions, including snow and wind. We can discuss the proposed layout and what information the local authority needs; we will confirm approval responsibilities in your project scope rather than promise a permit outcome from a webpage.

What Goes Into a Patio Cover Estimate?
We start with the patio and what you need the cover to change. From there, the useful decisions are its footprint, material, attachment or independent support, post positions and water path. An estimate should say what is included in the overhead work and what would be separate, such as a new patio surface or other yard improvements. If you are comparing bids, ask whether they describe the same roof material, support work and site preparation.
Those choices also affect price and scheduling. A cover next to a house with a tricky connection is not the same job as one on an open site, and a permit review can affect when work starts. We will talk through the actual property before giving you a project-specific scope.
Our work includes patio covers as well as patio construction, decks and other outdoor structures. That range is useful when a new cover needs to fit with the space you already have. It is not a reason to add features you did not ask for. We want the plan to make the patio work better for the way you use it.
Patio Cover Questions
Can you cover a patio I already have?
Possibly. We would first look at the condition and layout of the existing surface, where the supports could go and how the proposed roof could connect or stand on its own. We will not assume the old patio can carry the new structure without checking.
What is the difference between a patio cover and a deck cover?
A patio cover shelters a ground-level patio; a deck cover goes over a deck and has to account for that deck's framing and connections. We would look at the structure you actually have before choosing the right scope.
Will an ACRYLITE cover make my house darker?
An acrylic roof can let light through, but the result depends on the selected sheet, its tint, the roof layout and the windows behind it. We can discuss that trade-off with you before settling on material. It is not a promise that every sheet will leave the room unchanged.
Do I need a permit for a patio cover?
The answer depends on the property, jurisdiction and proposed structure. City and county submittal paths differ, so we check the location and scope rather than guessing from a mailing address. We will spell out permit responsibilities for your project.
Can the new cover be part of a larger patio project?
Yes, we also offer patio construction. We can discuss the surface and cover together, while keeping each part of the work clear in the proposal. If the existing surface is staying, we will plan around it rather than quietly treating it as new construction.
